Genevieve Nnaji, is starring in the new movie adaptation of Chimamanda Adichies’s best selling novel “Half of a Yellow Sun”. Nnaji will be playing the role of Ms Adebayo, a professor who develops a flirtatious relationship with her colleague Mr Odenigbo. The award-winning actress who was named one of Forbes Most Powerful African Celebrities will star in the cast which also feature Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anika Noni Rose and Thandie Newton.
The story is set during the Nigerian-Biafran War of 1967 – 1970 and centres around the a University Professor (Ejiofor) and his lover (Newton), her sister, a British ex-pat, and a young houseboy, exploring the impact the conflict has on their lives. The movie will be produced by Andrea Calderwood, the BAFTA winning producer of “The Last King Of Scotland” and Gail Egan, who already won Oscar for her “The Constant Gardener”. Nigerian playwright Biyi Bandele is making his directorial debut with this project, which is expected to be released in 2013.
